NEW YORK (AP) — The Trump administration on Thursday sued New York City over its “sanctuary city” policies, arguing they are obstructing the government from enforcing immigration law and contributed to the recent shooting of an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer.

The action comes days after an off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer was shot in the face during an ambush robbery attempt.

The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against New York City and Mayor Adams over the city’s sanctuary policies. According to the complaint, the city has “allowed dangerous criminals to roam the streets and commit heinous crimes within the community.
