President Donald Trump is threatening to hold up a stadium deal for Washington's football team if it doesn't restore its old name.

WASHINGTON — DC Council Chair Phil Mendelson has reached a deal with the Commanders on an amended stadium agreement which he will put before the Council in a vote within days of next week’s public hearing, sources tell WUSA9. The Commanders did not respond to a request for comment.

The long-debated return of the Washington Commanders to the District took a major step forward Wednesday, as D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson has reached a tentative agreement with the Commanders to amend the financial terms of a proposed new stadium at the RFK site.

President Trump on Sunday publicly demanded that the Washington Commanders change the team name back to the Redskins— labeling them derisively the “Washington Whatever’s.”
