Crews fighting a wildfire that destroyed the nearly century-old Grand Canyon Lodge were focused Tuesday on stopping the flames from consuming nearby cabins, a water pumping station, mule stables and other structures,
The building was surrounded by vegetation on fire when a team of "helitack" firefighters arrived to protect the area on Tuesday. Grand Canyon National Park officials said the crews knew if the pump house fell, the consequences could cripple park operations for months.
Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs took to the skies Saturday to survey the destruction caused by the Dragon Bravo Fire, which has scorched more than 11,000 acres near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. 12News was invited aboard a Blackhawk helicopter for the governor’s aerial tour.
