US President Donald Trump warned on Friday that the Brics grouping of emerging economies would “fall apart very quickly” if it ever became a truly influential alliance, as he vowed to impose steep tariffs on member countries and block the adoption of a US central bank digital currency (CBDC).

During the signing of the landmark GENIUS Act, President Trump launched a spectacular verbal assault on BRICS, calling the bloc a “little group fading fast”, accusing it of trying to dethrone the US dollar.
