Japan's embattled prime minister Shigeru Ishiba, fresh off a crushing defeat in upper house elections over the weekend, will not be in a position of strength to negotiate a favorable trade deal with the U.S., analysts said.
Japan's top tariff negotiator visited the White House on Tuesday. Japanese government sources said he is believed to have met with US President Donald Trump.
The election Sunday is about inflation that has been running between 3.5 percent and 4 percent.
