Ahead of the MLB trade deadline, the Dodgers have been rumored to add a big-name closer, but it's unlikely they will pay for one.
Here are the three best fits for Emmanuel Clase, should the Cleveland Guardians entertain trade offers for the star closer.
Emmanuel Clase can't hold 3-2 lead in the 10th inning in the first game of Saturday doubleheader against Royals.
Emmanuel Clase, who signed a team-friendly five-year, $20 million contract with the Guardians in 2022, is under team control through 2026, with $10 million club options for both 2027 and 2028.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, "The Cleveland Guardians are telling teams they plan to keep closer Emmanuel Clase, who still is under team control through 2028. He’s eligible for salary arbitration one final time in 2026, and has club options for $10 million in 2027 and 2028."
Brayan Rocchio opened the inning with a double. Austin Hedges moved him to third with a bunt and Kwan unloaded on a 2-2 curveball for his ninth homer of the season and a 6-2 lead. The homer was the longest of Kwan’s career and his third in the last three games. It must mean his strained right wrist is starting to feel better.
The Philadelphia Phillies desperately need to add a closer this year. They could look to swing a trade with the Cleveland Guardians to acquire Emmanuel Clase.
Emmanuel Clase makes a quick throw to second to pick off Tyler Tolbert for the first out of the bottom of the 10th inning
