Officials say due to the success of firefighting operations and favorable weather conditions, there has been minimal fire activity and spread of the Cram Fire.
Burdoin Fire has destroyed 14 homes, closed Highway 14 and put the community of Lyle on a level 3 "go now" evacuation order.
New wildfires continue to spark in Oregon as the state barrels into peak fire season. The Burdoin , Butte Creek and Greeley Heights fires ignited over the weekend. Several other fires continue to burn, including the Cram fire, declared the largest wildfire in the country.
On Sunday, July 20, fire managers announced that the fire is now 49% contained and has burned 95,748 acres. “Cooler temperatures and higher humidity are creating better conditions for mop-up work, especially along the fire perimeter and around structures,” fire managers said in a post on Facebook.
Officials reported Highway 97 was closed Tuesday north of Madras from milepost 70 to 75 due to the Cram Fire. Drivers should delays and use alternate routes, such as Highway 26. Highway 293 also had closures due to the fire.
The fire near Madras is 0% contained. Crews are working to hold lines and protect ranches as smoke impacts drivers on Highway 97. Level 3 evacuations remain active.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says zone NE 12 is under a Level 3 notice, while the town of Gateway is at Level 2 – Be Set. Evacuation orders are also in place for parts of Wasco County. You can find a detailed map of the evacuation orders for each county below:
