The Roosevelt Hotel’s “Asylum Arrival Center and Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center” is being closed by New York City, according to Mayor Eric Adams.
New York City on Friday sued the Trump administration for taking back $80.5 million of grants intended to cover part of the city’s cost of housing migrants. In a complaint filed in Manhattan federal court,
New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced the closure of the Asylum Seeker Arrival Center at The Roosevelt Hotel, citing declining migrant arrivals and cost-saving measures. The move comes amid a legal battle with the Trump administration over $80 million in withheld FEMA funds.
The program uses Customs and Border Protection funding and is managed by FEMA. It does not use money from FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund.
