The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that the team has waived guard/forward Javonte Green. Green, 6-4, 220, originally signed with New Orleans on August 22, 2024. He appeared in 50 games (18 starts) for the Pelicans this season,

The 31-year-old Green averaged 5.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 50 games with New Orleans this season.

After trading for De'Andre Hunter at the NBA trade deadline, the team will reportedly sign guard Javonte Green when his contract is bought out by the New Orleans Pelicans and he clears waivers. The Cavs are also adding depth with 6-foot-8 forward Nae'Qwan Tomlin on a 10-day contract,

The Pelicans acquired a versatile player like Green right before the trade deadline when they received Bruce Brown as part of the Brandon Ingram deal. Brown will fill Green’s role. Brandon Boston also will get more minutes.

In his six NBA seasons with Boston, Chicago and New Orleans, Green has appeared in 245 games (73 starts) with career averages of 5.5 points.

Javonte Green said he wanted to join the Cavs because of their "winning culture." Also, Green formed a bond with coach Kenny Atkinson last season.

When the Cavaliers are cooking, they’re already tough to beat. Now, they may have made it just tougher. At the very least, newcomer Javonte Green adds toughness.
