TikTok has reportedly returned to the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store, pre reports. ByteDance's TikTok was hit with a U.S. ban on January 19 after the company failed to appease the concerns about "national security risks.

Apple and Google restored TikTok to their app platforms Thursday night. The clock on the reprieve granted by Donald Trump for the Chinese-owned video-sharing platform continues to tick.

TikTok is a popular social media app from the company ByteDance. It has gone viral for its short form ... Since TikTok is side-loaded from the official website, and not downloaded from the Google Play Store, the app will not be updated automatically.

Since being pulled from Apple and Google stores last month, TikTok had remained operational for those in the U.S. who had already downloaded the app, though updates were unavailable.

The law requires TikTok's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell its U.S. assets in order to continue operating in the U.S. While the law only mandated that ByteDance remove TikTok from app stores in the U.S. if it failed to meet the sale deadline, company executives decided to shut down the app entirely.
