The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Kent and Sussex counties, and an Extreme Heat Watch for New Castle County, as the heat dome is expected to impact Delaware on Friday. The Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Watch will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on July 25.
Heat domes are caused by high-pressure systems that trap air near the surface of the Earth, sealing in hot, humid air and stopping cooler air from cycling through.
