Nearly two weeks after the deadly explosion at a fireworks facility in Esparto, Yolo County Sheriff Tom Lopez clarified his agency's involvement in the investigation and the close connection of two of his employees.

Her son, Joel "Junior" Melendez, 28, was killed in the blast. Lupe said her strong words are directed at the fireworks company that employed her son and also at county and state officials, who have provided limited information in the investigation. Lupe wants her son to be remembered as a great father, brother and friend.

The Yolo County Coroner’s Office has officially identified all seven people killed in the July 1 explosion in Esparto. Family members of the victims have been calling for answers from authorities, and criticizing the slow pace of information.
