The Supreme Court on Monday lifted an injunction against the Trump administration's efforts to gut the Department of Education. The move allows the administration to proceed with mass firings that slashed nearly half of the agency's workforce in March.

"The President must take care that the laws are faithfully executed, not set out to dismantle them," Sotomayor wrote.

A lower-court ruling had prevented Trump officials from slashing about half of the Education Department’s more than 4,100 workers.
