Shrapnel from an Israeli tank shell hit Gaza’s only Catholic church, killing three people. Israel’s military said it was a mistake and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he “deeply regrets” the incident.

Several people have been injured at the Holy Family Church in Gaza City, with some unconfirmed reports that it was hit by Israeli artillery shells.

"We pray that their souls rest (in peace) and for an end to this barbaric war. Nothing can justify the targeting of innocent civilians," said the Patriarchate, which oversees the church.
