Two people were mowed down in Manhattan’s Chinatown on Saturday morning, and police say the driver behind the wheel was arrested after trying to flee the scene.

A car accident in Chinatown, NY, left two dead after a stolen vehicle crashed into a cyclist and pedestrian. Two women were arrested following the incident.

When Kevin Cruickshank set off for his morning bike ride in Morningside Heights on Saturday, he had no idea it would be his last one.

The project involves capping the highway from 10th to 13th Streets to create a park and more developable land to reconnect Chinatown with the neighborhood to its north.

Ald. Nicole Lee (11th) welcomed the race’s return as Chinatown tries to recover from the pandemic. “This event serves both our community and visitors by bringing over 1,000 people into the neighborhood and generating foot traffic for our local businesses,” said Lee, who represents Chinatown.

The family of Kevin Cruickshank released a photo. Police say the 55-year-old was riding his bike when a speeding car lost control and struck him at Bowery and Canal streets. CBS News New York's Lisa Rozner reports.
